Leading a Double Life: Music Teachers in the Connecticut State Department of Education

Margaret Fitzgerald and Caroline Golschneider serve as Teacher Leaders in Residence at the Connecticut State Department of Education.

Teacher Leaders-in-Residence serve in a unique hybrid role, spending half of their time in district and the other half on site at the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE). We are the voice for teachers at the state level, assisting with projects such as the Connecticut Art Standards Adoption initiative with our own state arts consultant, Jackie Coleman. Both the Talent and Academic Offices solicit our on-the-ground insight for teacher evaluation, teacher leadership, and professional learning. Our contribution is not just cosmetic; we feel truly included in the decision making process.
