We have all witnessed the movement in education to pull data, to dig into the pictures it paints, and to identify the areas of need and excellence for stakeholders. In the case of arts education, we are now learning that through collecting, analyzing, and organizing statewide longitudinal data, the data can tell a compelling story. The idea that statewide data can be repurposed in this way is the driving force behind the Arts Education Data Project.

The Department of Education from the Keystone State supported unique opportunities for Pennsylvania educators to showcase excellence in curriculum and assessment at the SEADAE Assessment Symposium in Grapevine, TX, in November of 2016. These sessions highlighted work that has been done over the past 4 years to support student achievement that can be linked to teacher evaluation protocols in Pennsylvania, as well as providing down-to-earth practical application models to assess student achievement of academic standards.

The Connecticut Board of Education adopted the new Connecticut Arts Standards on October 5, 2016 with an eager and enthusiastic, unanimous vote.  Inspired by the National Core Arts Standards (2014), the new Connecticut Arts Standards provide a more rigorous academic program for Connecticut’s Arts students with a focus on student development and attainment of artistic literacy.
